TV SERIAL: DOCTOR WHO

       

   I think it is a good idea to write an entry about 'Doctor Who' as it is one of my favourite tv serials.

   Doctor Who is a British science fiction television serial produced by the BBC.It was featured in BBC from 1963 to 1996.After a period of 10 years, it returned with new episodes in 2005.

   The serial depicts the adventures of a Time Lord known as 'The DOCTOR'.He explores the universe in his Tardis, a time-and-travel machine of The Time Lords,.It appears as a blue police box and the interior of Tardis is much larger than its exterior.He travels either to planets or in time with companions and these companions are generally earthling because of doctor's fondness to earth and feelings of mankind.

   The doctor is not only an eccentric alien traveller but also helpful.He helps ordinary people,and rights wrongs.

   Furthermore he has the ability to regenerate his body when he die.So,  he can have a different appearence and even different character. The Doctor has been played by 12 actors up to now. It is one of the most interesting aspects of this serial.Suddenly another actor takes place of the doctor that we get used to.In the beginning. it was both difficult and irritating. For instance,when tenth doctor ,David Tennant, died, I decided that I wouldn't watch Doctor Who anymore; because,  while David Tennant is both sympatheticand funny,Matt Smith,eleventh doctor, is neither comic nor skilful.Yet,the serial is so fascinating that I couldn't help watching it. In time, I understand  that Matt Smith acts as accomplishedly as David Tennant.But still, David Tennant is my favourite with his gestures and facial expressions.
  In my opinion,if you are interested in fantastic things, you will like Doctor Who.I recommend it to you.At least you must watch it for once :)

   Because I come from Aydın and I am not used to this type of weather. But never mind I will get used to. I feel great especially psychological aspect. Because I’m at where I want to be. Slumdog Millionaire

     Slumdog Millionaire is one of the my favourite movies.In the film, Jamal Malik, a penniless eighteen year old orphan, takes participate in the Indian version of 'Who Wants to Be A Millionaire?'and events from his life story are shown with flashbacks.The film explores the power of the love and possibility of destiny. It tells a heart wrenching, absorbing tale.The video is fragman of Slumdog Millionaire. It is about plot of Slumdog Millionaire.It summarizes what happens in the movie.
    I choose this video; because, it reflects movie wonderfully with both its music and its scenes.
    'Jamal Malik is one question away from winnnig 20 million ruppees.How did he do it?  A: He cheated. B: He is lucky C: He is a genius D: It is destiny' These sentences are the most important part of the video; since all film is based on reason of the success of Jamal.
   It is an intruguing video. When people see that Jamal is detained and interrogated by a police inspector and  the police inspector says that 'Doctors...lawyers   never get past 60 thousand ruppees.He has won 10 million. What can a slumdog possinly know?', they wonder answer of the question, and so they want to watch movie immediately.
  I like the video.It is not only informative but also impressive. It is more than just a regular fragman. It gets me inside of the story. As a consequence; the video is triumphant.

Passion of Shopping

   Generally  people like shopping .Men are reluctant and wait until they need something, but it is a passion for women.It is a form of social interaction.It is about freedom, self confidence.
  Women always have reasons for going shopping.They want to feel relaxed or reward themselves.It is the most suitable activity when they have free time and it is a therapy for them.Also there are a lot of special days when they need buy gifts like Valiente's Day,anniversaries of marriage,birthdays...
  One of the reasons the passion of shopping is shopping centers that we see everywhere. People can buy clothes, jewelleries and other things at a discount at these shopping centers. Moreover they get people encourage for shopping with a lot of advertisement. So they can extract money from people's pocket.
  Because of these reasons, specially women buy a lot of unnecessary things.Most women  have many hangbags, shoes that they don't wear in their wardrobes. They understand that they needen't  buy so much things.However they can't help going shopping. They walk into a store without any real purpose or they are in there with the intention of buying one or two items. Furthermore if they haven't enough time for going shopping, they do online shopping.
  Women must take precautions for unnecessary shopping. They should focus on what will really benefit.They should control themselves and get organised. They must do shopping list. If they enter a shop with a list, they will only buy what is on the list. Besides, before they buy anything, they must slow down and think.And they must memorize people who even can't buy necessary things for subsisting.

I Brain ODTÜ

  When I first heard the slogan of Metu, I thought that it was so absurd. Because it doesn't tell us about Metu's properties,opportunities and it isn't comprehensive.Also eveyone knows Metu's level of education.So,while a slogan is being chosen for Metu, it shouldn't be about education level of Metu.It must reflect soul of Metu and its differences from other universities in Turkey.

   Moreover when we hear this slogan,we firstly think about scientific side of Metu.However Metu doesn't have scientific departments only.There are other kind of departments like sociology,history,psyhology...

   If I had designed a slogan, I would choose ' Metu people don't accept any borders or limitations', because people can think and speak freely at Metu.They try everything to be successful.Also it reflects how Metu people must act.

   Although I don't like this slogan so much,I think it is an effective one.Because the aim of the slogan is advertisement for Metu.And people designing it have achieved their aim.Everyone knows it.Also it is liked by a lot of students.We can see students wearing tshirts that 'I brain ODTU' on.

Being a Student at Metu

        Being a student at Metu was my goal in high school.Although I fulfill my dream, I have some adaptation problems.

  Firstly; because my all close friends are at a different section,I am so sad.I have difficulty in devoloping new relotionship and adapting to an unfamiliar environment. Living with people who I don't know so much about  is a hard condition.

  Secondly,campus is too complicated and broad.On account of the distance between faculties and dormitories, it takes so much time to go to anywhere.
  Lastly English is the language of instruction at Metu.As a consequence of this,I am finding it difficult to understand my teachers clearly.Moreover university lessons are more difficult than high school lessons.While I spend lesss time in class, I study hard at my free time.Also I need to balance work and social life.
  To cope with the challenges that I am facing, I am trying to get along with my new friends.I comminicate my expectations respectfully for avoiding conflict with my roommates. By using maps, I learn where faculties and other buildings.When I don't understand what teachers are talking about, I ask for help.Also I attend class regularly and take notes in order to improve my success.
  Despite of its hardships, Metu provides a lot of opportunities for students.They can find whatever they want or need at shopping centers.Also there are a wide range of places like cafes,library,post office,healt center etc. Besides there are many social clubs.
  Metu gives me freedom I need.this is one of the advantages of Metu for me.
  Consequently; I am happy about being at Metu.despite of difficulties,Being a student at metu is privilege.

An Ideal University

  Universities which are dreamt are different from one another for everyone.For me, an ideal university provides  a good education at the highest level.However it doesn't just  focus on training its students. It prepares them to real life too.It helps students develop abilities in different areas like communication,problem solving..
  It is a place where students can think,speak,investigate freely.On the other words; students are allowed to do what they want without being stopped to some extent.It helps students be aware of social problems and tries to find solutions for the problems.It teachs the value of honesty,loyalty etc. Culture and heritage are preserved and devoleped.
  An ideal university has teachers who are knowledable about their subject,concerned about the welfare of students,supportive.Also that teachers really know how to teach and help students learn content.
  An ideal university must provide a lot of opportunities.It should have comfortable and modern dormitories and provide scholorship for the students that need financial support.Students shouldn't face any transportation problems.Also there must be social activities at an ideal university.
  Metu fits all criteria that I have set for an ideal university.It is one of the most prestigious universities of Turkey.It focuses on the needes and expectations of students.It is a place of interaction.
  There are 18 modern dormitories within campus.Tv rooms,computer laboratories,kitchens are available at these dormitories.With ego buses,minibuses,taxis,ring busses which operate between dormitories and departments, transportation is very easy.Campus is away from traffic jam.

  Cultural,arts,sports events like concerts,conferences are organized for students.Also there are many student groups and societies in Metu.

  Metu is an ideal university for me.Moreover it is beyond my wildest dream.
